The Trauttmansdorff Castle Gardens
A blossoming oasis in the middle of the Alps – in Meran the most beautiful gardens in Italy are enchanting. Views of the exotic Mediterranean landscapes, views of the surrounding mountain ranges and sun-soaked Meran: the Trauttmansdorff Castle gardens have a collection of more than 80 garden landscapes from all over the world in ideal climatic conditions. Four garden worlds form the scenery of the gardens. The forest gardens, with their diverse forest scenery. The sun gardens, with splendorous greenery, which form the image of the South. Additionally, the landscape of South Tyrol with its original natural landscapes and native plant cultures and the water and terrace designed gardens.
The castle is enthroned in the centre of the gardens. Count Trauttmansdorff had it reconstructed from the Medieval ruins and Empress Sissi lived in it twice as a winter health resort and strolled along the magnificent flora. Currently in the castle is the Touriseum – the Museum of Tourism. In the meticulously restored rooms where Empress Sissi used to reside, fascinating interior features and spatial settings demonstrate the development of South Tyrol as one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe
